I effing love this bar. I love Allison, Katie, Colleen, & Donna. Those girls are solid. Joe makes the best burgers ever! We go every sunday for their $1 burgers. This is seriously the place with the best burger in the area. I know Red Coat is good, but there is just something about these burgz that are just a bit better. I can't imagine how different my life would be if I never set foot in that bar. I love all the people who go there, & I would spend most of my nights there. That makes me sound like an alcoholic but sometimes I don't drink at all, I just go for the atmosphere & the food. If you've never been here or didn't like it, you should be ashamed of yourself. It's AMAZING. The door man is hilarious & ID's us every time even though he knows us, kinda sorta. Thank you Ye Olde for being the best ever.

Ye Olde is the place to be if you want an authentic dive. It's a crappy place to drink but that is kind of the charm. The average clientele is a little shifty, the whole place is kind of appropriately run down, it's dank and it's dingy. All that is, of course, the point of the place. There's a shuffleboard table, and a pretty decent electronic dartboard, if you're into that. Of course, the drinks are where it's at. The pours are generous and you are definitely getting your money's worth. Also worth noting, the staff is pretty great. They will look out for you. Had too much? They'll cut you off and call you a cab. Forget your card for the tab? They'll run out to the parking lot to catch you. Solid folks working there. Ye Olde is a pretty good place for a night out. Don't take anybody here who needs to be impressed, but for some real laid-back, salt of the earth kind of living, it's the place to be.

I had an absolutely middle of the road experience. The set up and ample seating was nice; lots of tables, in various sizes. The decor was cute. I was charmed by the paintings of horses winking/being coy on the wall. Their jukebox is digital, so there are literally thousands of songs to choose from. The shuffleboard is massive (see: awesome). Once the Wings game started (did I mention they had a couple of reasonably sized tvs?) there were 2 dollar draft and bottle beer specials. Most of the days of the week they have a food special: Sunday = Dollar Burgers , Monday = Dollar Hotdogs, Tues= 2 Dollar Tacos, and Wednesday = Sloppy Joes. The waitress was friendly and prompt. The drinks were strong and affordable. The food didn't take long to cook. The burgers were bigger than I expected and delicious; the quality of the toppings was readily apparent. Their serving sizes for the tater tots and onion rings were fair. Now, with all of this positive commentary, how was this a middle of the road experience instead of a great one, you ask? Once we left, both my boyfriend and I ended up feeling waves of nausea for the next couple of hours. All we could think to blame was the burgers. I know people who are regulars at Sunday Burger night that have never had any cause to complain about this place, so I'm willing to assume that my experience was a fluke. Would try again.

This place ranks up there on great burgers. Fries included. They also have a 20' shuffleboard table, which is cool. Atmosphere is nonstandard, unassuming - kinda grunge (sorry, that's so yesterday) when busy.

Taco Tuesday (go chicken instead of chorizo to forego grease), amazing jukebox (dub step cover of AC/DC, kris Kross and Sinatra), and a decent selection of brews ($2 domestic cheapies ftw). You can definitely ball on a budget here. Do not forget to ask about the specials. Why did I just now discover this place?

If you're looking for a dive bar in Royal Oak, look no further. Crowd is not pretentious and the bartenders are friendly and keep the (inexpensive) drinks flowing. The burgers are also pretty good here. They also have shuffleboard, which I haven't seen anywhere else in the area. I don't come here all the time, but its fun to stop in occasionally to change it up from the typical Royal Oak crowd.

Quickly becoming one of my very favorite spots! Love the atmosphere, love the burgers and fries (haven't tried anything else yet) and the staff is friendly. Would get 5 stars, but I love draft micro-brews and yesterday they had nothing on tap I liked. Maybe that's more my problem, than theirs? : )

Unpretentious, old fashioned hang out. A good place to avoid the typical royal oak bar scene.

Don't come here with pretensions. Don't come here expecting anything. Come and get a beer and enjoy a cool dive bar with good people, a killer pinball, and the quirkiest decor around.

After logging in much time watching the British sitcom Peep Show, my man was soon on the hunt for something called Scotch eggs. Hard-boiled eggs wrapped in sausage then battered and fried sounded like handfuls'a heaven to him! On a quest to procure said layered delight, we learned that Ye Olde Saloon has them and I smiled. This place is the anti-status-quo Royal Oak bar...I bet puka shell necklaces and Ed Hardy would poof into smoke on contact! The decor is kitsch perfection. Made to look like the inside of a barn complete with mural horses in stalls, wooden beams and lanterns also abound. There's a shuffleboard table, pool, fun pinball games, and I was delighted to find a Multicade game complete with Frogger! Uncle Butch loved his Scotch eggs served with yummy "pub sauce", and they even had a tasty veggie burger for me! The chick behind the bar was an attentive sweetheart, and due to happy hour and "Beer o' the Month", my Coronas were $1.50 and colder'n Frosty's nuts! Ye Olde is like your fun, Rodney Dangerfield-esque uncle walking into a trendy Royal Oak suare clutching a Bud. Nah, on second thought he was there kicked back his recliner the whole time.

If Jim Leyland swears by it, how can you go wrong? Well I don't know if he swears by it, but he is an occasional customer. Incredible drink prices, incredible food prices, free parking, and friendly staff whose friendliness is quite genuine. No frills. No BS. Just an incredible place to spend an afternoon drinking, eating fried food, and watching a game. Try the breakfast too. It's awesome.

I wish I could give this place less then 1 star. I wish I could give it less then no stars. I've been here more than once and have never been that impressed, but my most recent trip sealed the deal. I will never return and I will tell all that I know to stay away. A friend and I went here a few nights ago and I started a tab and he payed cash for his drinks. Little did I know that the bartender was putting all of our drinks on my tab and taking my friends cash for his drinks at the same time. When it came time to cash out I got the bill and saw what was going on. When I asked about it I was told it was all right and nobody would hear me or my friend out. As far as they were concerned we were too drunk to know what was going on and was told to pay and leave or they would call the cops. It's a poorly run business and I will never return so some bartenders can retire early with a great scam.

If you want to feel like you're drinking in the movie Mary Poppins, you should come to Ye Olde Saloon. Not only does the name Ye Olde Saloon make you want to talk in a cockney accent a la Dick Van Dyke, there are horse murals on the walls that look just like the horses from Mary Poppins. Now that is really the most negative thing I will say about Ye Olde (I'm really not a big fan of Mary Poppins, and I especially disliked the animated horses). As I've mentioned before, I adore dive bars, and Ye Olde, or YO, can definitely be classified as a dive. YO has cheap beer, good specials, and an awesome shuffle board! Yesssssss! One night we shared the shuffle board with another group, and while we were waiting for our turn, we did rounds of quarters. The waitress was in full support of this, bringing us shorter glasses and helping us find an ideal table to bounce quarters off of. Good thing that we were playing with separate beer glasses, as YO is definitely not the type of place where you'd want to put something in your mouth after dropping it on the floor. Anyway, staff here will go above and beyond to make sure you have a fun time. The only other negative comment I have is that there bathrooms remind me of "The Shining." Seriously! I just googled "the shining bathroom," and I thought I pulled up an image of Ye Olde! In conclusion: Mary Poppins + Cheers + The Shining = Ye Olde Saloon

If you love burgers and beer, this is the place to be. On Sunday's they have half pound burgers for a buck. Who can beat that? They also have tater tots, Which I love. Plenty of Michigan beers on tap as well. One of my favorite dive bars in Metro Detroit. Two thumbs up!!!

    (4)
  • Michelle D.

I LOVE YE OLDE SALOON!!!! Relaxed atmosphere that can become a huge party out of nowhere! The burgers and sandwiches are great, and they have an ever-changing Michigan craft beer selection. They have weekly specials and on the weekends you can expect to find a mix of regulars and randoms. This is a great place to go with a group or just by yourself.

  • Brooke D.

I could almost give this place five stars. Yes it is a dive, yes I'm usually drunk when I order, but I swear they make the tastiest burger I've had. On Sundays they pass out a sort of create your own burger sheet at a special price. Everywhere I go I'm always comparing my burger to Ye Oldes. Love this place and beyond anything love their burgers. I'm forgetting to mention they serve other good things, they have a scotch egg, supposedly delicious mini tacos, and although it may be hard to do a philly steak wrong- theirs is great.

    (4)
  • Eowyn K.

You can't beat a bar that has table scuffle board. The saloon works on any night for any number of people. Sundays offer $1 (additional costs per topping) that is a really-good-bar-burger. Mondays have a similar $1 hot dog night and Tuesdays are taco night. They also have scotch eggs (if you have never tried it you need to) that come with tots and saloon sauce. The staff/service is good. Orders are quick and get to the right person. The food does take a bit of time, especially if you have a large group such as a Monday night kickball team, since there is only a small grill and fryer. But that is ok because it just gives you drinking time.

I successfully moved my friend's party from Fifth Avenue to this place, although I've never been here, in hopes of a less-douchy crowd. The crowd was much better, although it was really packed on a Saturday night - barely standing room. The service was nice at the bar; quick and friendly, and the prices were cheap. Music was a good mix of classic rock and 80's. I would totally come back to check out the food specials and enjoy some drinks.

Old school " joint" I prefer this place when it's pretty empty or any Sunday. It's kind of a small space, and there is just something so much more appealing to me about a place like this when it's populated by a small handful of other bar patrons. Peace and quiet. When it's packed, it loses it's lustre. ....but that's just me. The Sunday 1$ cheeseburger is heaven on Earth. Sure they charge for extras, but for a few dollars more you get one of the juiciest, tastiest burgers of your life. I get mine with bacon and double slices of pepper jack cheese. (I'm getting hungry for one just writing this ) Of course it takes 15 minutes but be patient, it's worth it. That is a seriously good burger. The basket of fries are also nice. Really flavorful. Definately an honest, cool bar. Great food and cool atmosphere. Old school shuffleboard abnd pool tables. A nice place to go and get lost from the world mid afternoon!

Definitely had ye old hangover after my visit this past weekend. Well worth it! Strong vodka drinks must have been $4 a pop - was pleasantly surprised with how inexpensive our tab was at the end of the night. Did not eat, so I can't review the food but someone got nachos and they looked so good I had to hit taco bell on my way home. That could have been a result of the numerous $4 vodka soda's.. but still. Good crowd and even had a small area to dance in.

Like smoking? Getting plastered on the cheap? "Curvy" bartenders? Let's just say I don't think the average patron uses Yelp, or the Internet. That said, this is a great place to come, get trashed and sleep in your car in the parking lot. And smoke a pack of Reds, first or second-hand, take your pick. Update: I can't believe I forgot to mention the drinks. Get a mixed drink or liquor, the pours are more than generous. They run like $3.50 or something, too. This place is kind of incredible on some levels.

I live in royal oak and this is by far my favorite bar in the city. Why? - I love dive bars. - with that being said, I don't go to dive bars and expect first class food. It's a dive bar, bro. Dive bars equal gross food. Act like you don't know. This is why I have not and will not ever eat there - YOU CAN ACTUALLY HEAR PEOPLE TALK - there is the greatest bar game ever invented located there. Fo free. Shuffleboard. - lack of trendy royal oak douche bags There's a lot of poor reviews from some whiny people about this place that don't understand a dive bar. You go there, you BS with friends, and you drink cheap beer. It accomplishes all that. Love it.

I can't believe I've never made it to Ye Olde for dollar burger Sunday before last week. Don't let them fool you. The burger itself is a dollar and each topping is additional money. The waitress gave us forms to fill out with our topping choices and sides. So easy and mistake proof. My burger and fries were fantastic! There was a great variety of craft beer taps at decent prices. Our server was really nice, very patient and attentive. The only bad part about my Ye Olde experience was the oddly numerous amounts of children in the bar. Like most bars, I would not consider Ye Olde to be 'kid friendly'. I should not have to watch my words in a dark lit bar, even if it is 5pm on dollar burger Sunday.

  • Melissa M.

Quiet and dark. It's an old skool Royal Oak bar with an amazing juke box. The bacon on the stick is pretty awesome, as well as the shuffle board game. This place is not the typical trendy Royal Oak spot. It's grungy, low key, and pretty cool if you just want to chill.

LOVE this place. Almost tempted to not rave about it too much because it's not crowded during early dinner time, but they have great deals, friendly staff, and delicious food :)

Service is decent but wow $11.00 for a pitcher of Miller Lite???? Really at this place??? Yes that's what it was. The bill line only said "misc bar". Normal price or severe over charge by staff??? Questionable to visit again....... Hopefully management will comment on this???

I come here time to time with my friends. We take a particular liking to the old shuffleboard table they have. The place is just OK. They serve what any bar serves. The prices are that as most other bars in Royal Oak. A big +1 for serving Edmund Fitzgerald on tap. The decor is old, the tables and chairs are old, a good old fashioned dive bar. What totally sets this place apart from any other dive I've been in is the shuffleboard table. My friends and I have spent countless hours sliding the pucks around. Usually a good time had by all. Nothing special about it, but in the end if you have a good time with your friends, you can't ask for much more.

Food is surprisingly fantastic. Not what you expect from a bar... In a fantastic way. Beer is always cold and drinks are great. Ye olde is a staple of royal oak.

  • Reena V.

This is the absolute WORST bar I have ever been to. If there was a 0 star option, that is what I would choose. There food is absolutely horrible. I ordered the nachos and they came out completely cold, I requested them to be warmed up and I was told they would be placed back in the oven and they came out again cold on the same plastic plate that they were originally served on. The service was horrendous and the waitress was completely clueless. We waited over an HOUR for the shuffleboard after politely requesting a turn from the people in front of us. When we finally asked them again if it was our turn to play, they took the pucks with them and complained to the bartender that we were being rude. The bartender not only refused to listen to us but had the audacity to ask us to leave (of course only after making us pay our bill by holding an ID hostage). If you are looking for a fun place in downtown Royal Oak.... this is NOT THE PLACE TO GO...continue driving because any place is better than this.

  • Randall F.

Obviously the 4 stars are relative to the kind of place this is: small, unpretentious, dive-y. Love their cheap, greasy food, especially the tacos and burgers. Stupid cheap drink specials--pints of PBR, Lite, or Labatt for a buck and two-buck wells. Bartenders are pretty cute, even though they look like they're ready to move furniture: no makeup, pony tails, jeans, t-shirts, sneakers. They're generally friendly, if a bit guarded. Places like this tend to be dominated by regulars, and fortunately the regs aren't obtrusive here, apart from the fact that they play really shitty classic rock on the godawful high-tech jukebox. Overall, I'd describe this place as a comfortable oasis off the well-worn douchebag path that is Royal Oak, where blue-collar folks mix nicely with the hipsters who emulate them.

  • Megan D.

This is a great little "dive bar" that I look forward to visiting again. I met up with some co-workers on a friday after work to enjoy a few beers. The jukebox had a good selection of music. Played a few games of shuffleboard. We had a good time. Definitely adding to our list of places to go to again.

My husband and I stopped here after a disappointing venture to purchase a car. Needless to say we were grumpy. After a couple of the on special dollar beers and cheeseburgers we were good as new! The burgers are so good! Perfectly pink in the middle and a little crisp on the outside, just the right amount of pickles. The fries are the thick kind and the cheese sauce they had for dipping was awesome. Basically i'm sad we hadn't stopped in here sooner. And next time i'm bringing quarters to play AC/DC pinball! I almost forgot. My hubby has been wanting to try a scotch egg so bad and he finally got one today! It tastes like breakfast. tasty breakfast. Also the waitress/barkeep was nice and attentive.

Wow!! I just got whisked back into a far away place... my childhood! I'm sure you think that sounds pretty weird considering i'm reviewing a bar, but this isn't just any bar. This is the bar I grew up in. Yep, no shit. I am not sure what color it is now, but for years and years it was baby shit green with piss yellow trim. I remember how it looked BEFORE THAT! It was brown with cream trim.. Same funny looking guys, same horses.. Same ole same ole Ye Olde... heh.. My mom started working here in 1978 when I was 3 years old. Although I was not quite a "regular" at that ripe ole age, I would be in 1981, when I was 6. Don't see many kids in bars anymore. Ha!! the times they are a-changin'! A lot of the reviews talk about the shuffleboard. It's probably the same one my Uncle Mike sold them from North American Interstate in the late 70s. He also sold them a cig machine, 2 pinball machines, and a jukebox. I'm sure those are all gone now. It's nice to hear the shuffleboard is there still. My mom is one of the sketches on the wall. So are a few others that I remember; her boyfriend Ray, a barmaid named Lori, and a barmaid named Linda. I remember the boss back then, Bob. He was also a lawyer so if you got busted for DUI after drinking in his bar, he would defend you. Bob passed away many years ago, as did my mom. RIP. They all looked after me. I would come in after a long hard day of 2nd grade over at St. Mary's Royal Oak on Lafayette and oftentimes stay until past closing, sleeping in the back office. I could play pinball for hours with just one quarter, albeit, standing on a chair. There used to be a guy named Jerry that came in, he was a.k.a. Pinball Wizzard... I gave him a run for his money a few times. I was 7, he was in his 40s. I remember my mom having her 40th birthday party there in 1981. I remember she got all embarrassed over some wierd shaped thing she got that she wouldn't let me see. Now of course I know it was a vibrator, a gag gift from one of her friends. I remember the food and the Shirley Temples (xtra cherries please) and learning to play backgammon, and dominoes. I remember having to hide in the back office if the cops had to come, since I wasn't supposed to be in after 9, but often my mom had no choice for lack of sitters (or money for one). I know this isn't your standard every day bar review, and won't help you decide if they pour a good shot, but i'm glad to do it, and re-live some good *and maybe age inappropriate* memories. The staff always looked out for me, and I always got fed good food and I'm glad that the Ye Olde was there and still is there. Memories....

Had a really fun night at Ye Olde last night... It helps that I was surrounded by a ton of friends that I don't get to see very often and since Sloan R posted this as a mini reunion on facebook, we had a ton of people come out... I'd never been to Ye Olde before, but I was told to expect a smokey dive bar. I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't too smokey and it had a great vibe inside. Fun music playing (perhaps a tribute to Michael Jackson), great service (thanks Sara!), darts and pool and cheap strong drinks. Another unique thing that I remember from last night at Ye Olde: Poncho, my new friend Smiley's dog, came into the bar and jumped right up on a bar stool and drank out of a glass! Oh, and they have a private parking lot - it's so nice not to worry about parking when you go out! Thanks to everyone who came out last night - I had a blast... it may have been my first time to Ye Olde, but it won't be my last!

I've been coming here for a few weeks now, and I have to say it's one of my new favorites. The other reviews pretty much cover the atmosphere. It's a divey type bar, but not too bad. It's comfortable. The crowd varies quite a bit. The food here is pretty typical bar-type munchies, but everything i've had has been really good. The fried zucchini is out of this world. I hear the burgers are top notch too, but i'm a vegetarian so I don't really give a shit! They've got a shuffleboard, pinball, an arachnid dart board that sometimes works, and of course golden tee. The best part of this bar by FAR is the staff. Everyone is super friendly and knows their shit. Michelle is easily the best! Just don't pick any shitty songs on the juke box, or else you'll piss them all off and they will skip your song!

Oh, Ye Olde, how I love thee (thou?). Eh, whatever. This place rocks! Let me tell you why.... Ye Olde is a dive bar located a couple blocks outside of downtown Royal Oak. You can still walk from downtown but the beauty of this is that they have FREE parking aka a private parking lot. So you don't have to circle around and around like a vulture to find a parking space or worry about throwing more quarters in the meter even at prime times. They have your typical fried bar food that was mentioned in the other reviews. The digital juke box, darts, pool, and FREE shuffle board(!!!) is always a treat. Go during a local game and they have really nice drink specials. The staff is always cool and easy going. One time, this drunk dude would not stop talking to my friend and I. We told the bartender we were going to kick his ass so she gave us doubles for putting up with him. We didn't and it was appreciated! My suggestion....DON'T go on the weekend as it gets very crowded with retarded out of area retards. Yep, they are double retarded. During the week you can usually get a seat at the bar and don't have to wait for shuffleboard or darts. My ONLY gripe and you can't blame the establishment....there's no eye candy. This place is a pure sausage fest. Oh well, I still love you Ye Olde!

Tom & Alz here for our first entry documenting wherever we may go. This is one of our favorite bars of all time. Pool, darts, shuffleboard, 3 pinball machines, great beer, food, and people. Jennifer the bartender is simply the best. Awesome pinball selection. Star Trek, X-Men Wolverine Limited Edition, and Walking Dead. 2$ for 3 plays what a steal for hours of fun. Sunday is BURGER night where you get a 1/2 lb burger for $1.50 with toppings for 50 cents each. The greatest with their rockin tots of course. Their beers on tap seem to rotate at least once a month. Ask for a sample or two and a current favorite is their Ye olde 40th anniversary bottle. Cheers!

  • Alex K.

Such a great place! X-Men (Limited Edition), The Walking Dead, and Star Trek pinball tables pair well with a pretty nice beer selection. And, based on what I ate for dinner, the food's pretty good to boot. Sunday they have burgers for just $1.50 (!!!) and they're half a pound! I feel like they're actually a bit smaller than that, but they're still basically the best value anywhere ever. Really, my toppings (bleu cheese, bacon, jalapenos) cost more than the burger. I also opted to get a side of onion rings which were excellent too -- if they happened to be frozen (I don't THINK they were), they were the best damned frozen onion rings ever. Great prices, and ridiculous service from the bartender Jennifer... I've not had better service from behind the bar. It's too bad I don't live closer to Royal Oak, because this would most likely be my go-to bar.

Whattya' get the Dad who has everything for Father's Day? Nothing, you take him to Ye Olde Saloon "burger Sunday" just like my son did, ;). IDK why people call places like this a "dive" ... this is the way bars are supposed to be, people. But, to the burger ... buy a beer/drink, get a dollar 1/2 lb burger is how I think it works. You can also dress it out for a mere pittance ... the add-ons slip they give you is pictured somewhere among the reviews. I'm a simple man ... tomato, raw onion slice, cheese, maybe some lettuce ... possibly the best damn burger I've ever had. Rare, juicy, lightly toasted bun ... there's a hint of garlic salt in there somewhere ... paired with a PBR on tap & the Tiger game in the background, you pretty much just described heaven-on-earth, IMO. Clean w/character is how I'd describe the joint, customer service was excellent and the ambience pleasant. "I'll be back", :). Two thumbs up!

Unfortunately, the majority of the bars and restaurants in the area cater to a crowd that I don't want to be around. I will ALWAYS prefer a grimy bar with a lot of loud characters and a decent jukebox over an extra-clean bar with a bunch of tvs and specialty cocktail menus designed girls who just turned 21. So when a friend recommended Ye Olde Saloon to me, I was pretty skeptical. "They have dollar burgers on Sunday" was the reply. I would be a stubborn fool to ignore that suggestion. Pulling up to the restaurant, I was prepared to be disappointed. The bar sits at the edge of the downtown district, in a pretty unremarkable building. That's a good sign, I thought to myself. When my eyes adjusted to the darkness after walking in, I was feeling even better. With a few goofy murals, a sparse barely-western theme, and a central bar/kitchen area between the two rooms, there's not a whole lot to this place except a lot of room to move around. They spruce it up a bit with a free shuffleboard table (nice!) and a bunch of pinball machines, the electronic game choice of winners. The crowd was varied - from the group of twenty-something guys playing poker, to a few middle-aged men at the bar watching hockey, to groups of people like us looking for a cheap beer and a cheap burger. It is a place that appeals to all demographics. (Read the rest at ( motorcityburgerclub.word… )

Got to go to Ye olde Saloon for some drinks with some old friends, and we all had a great time. The place has a laid back vibe with some pretty good waitress service, even when they got busy later in the night she still kept coming back and checking on us, the crowd was good not full of wankers like most of royal oak, and the fooze ball table was lots of fun. I will go back.

Love this place! Very dive style bar which is a nice change from the upscale overpriced hipster shit all around.. Can't beat the Sunday burger deal! And the burgers are great! Would have given it a 5 star but our bartender always seems to be in not the greatest mood.. Still a great place though.

Tend to go there on Sunday nights for their $1 burger special which ends up closer to $3 once I load it up. Still a good deal. Have been there on mon night for their hot dog special as well. Decent drink selection and a better crowd as most RO bars as far less douchey and young. Can honestly say I've only been there maybe 6 times in 15 yrs and I live fairly close. Started going there on a more regular basis recently as I have a couple of friends that love this place!

The diviest dive bar that ever dove. And that's okay. I like dive bars. Ye Olde Saloon is a welcome change from your Black Finn or 521 Main St. scene. They have a nice selection of beers, cheap fried food, shuffleboard and even live music on the weekends. It is not a place you need to worry about dressing up which is also nice. So check out to Ye Olde Saloon for a night without worrying if you wore the right shoes or shirt. I believe they have happy hour specials as well so it might be worth checking out during the weekday evenings. Best bet: go here and sit at the bar and catch a Tigers game on a weeknight after work.

Ye Olde- Love / Hate relationship based on the day of the week and the resulting clientele. Big fan of Sunday - Thursday locals' nights. Not so big a fan of brofest amateur hour on the weekends. What goes around comes around for an OG. The food lives and dies by the grillmaster on deck. If it is Mike the bald dude with the big beard you are in competent hands. Sunday's I get my $1 burger - Super Extra Rare X 2 Patties + Grilled Onions + Cheddar Cheese + Pickles finished with Mayo + A-1 Sauce. Sometimes I put an egg or Bacon on it depending on how drunk I am. Their French dip is pretty skimpy on the French and heavy on the Dip. You get this little sandwich and a big soup bowl of Au jus. Put some vodka, Tabasco, and Lea and Perrins in that piece and now you're talking. Another hack worth mentioning is ordering a Dearborn hot dog + Bacon +Grilled onions + finish with Mayo and heavy splashes of Cholua. You got yourself an LA Ghetto Dog. I am a menu Genie. I used to get Moscow Mules here in copper Tito's mugs with Tito's Vodka which was cool and slightly sentimental because I was stationed in the great state of Texas and Tito's Vodka is distilled in Austin and I have raised some hell in that Tex town but some douche bag motherfuckers stole the copper Tito's mugs from the bar. Sometimes things just happen that can make a man want to load up his shotgun and take to the streets for some justice. You just don't go around stealing copper mugs for a man's Moscow mule from his neighborhood bar and not expect repercussions, brother. Check yourself.

Let me just preface this review with this: it's a motherfucking bar! If you want fancypants aiolis, and chutneys, and fucking shit like that, go somewhere else. They serve bar food. And it's awesome. One of the best burgers you'll ever eat. On Sundays, they're a buck. The chicken and waffles are tits. The corned beef Sammie is one of my favs, and the French dip is good too. You can get tots. Napolean loves tots, and if you don't, you're an asshole. This also isn't a fruity frou frou drink place. You won't get orange peels and all that dumb shit. Get a shot and a beer. Then repeat that ten times. Katie is the best. She's sweet, but doesn't take shit. They also have shuffleboard and darts. And a pool table. So there's lots of activities. If this doesn't sound rad, go buy a fifteen dollar beer at some lame ass craft beer hall, and leave cool people like me alone.

Yes, it's a dive. If you're looking for someplace comfortable, with good greasy food, without the douche baggery of downtown Royal Oak, this is worth giving a shot.

This is one of my most favorite dive bars to go to and $1 BURGER DAY is the shiznit!! The fried egg on top and the side of tots completes me. Top that off with $3 Whiskey/Ginger Ale and you're golden. The burger is seriously amazing and I highly recommend coming here at least once..seriously!

Not impressed. Barmaids were not that busy, just alot of walking back and forth. Flagging, looking happy, looking mean, waving big bags of money did not get there attention. A guy sitting alone writing in his notebook flagged one down and said we had been waiting for about 10-15 and dont have a drink yet. She looked uninterested. I would not be upset if I never entered this bar again. I would drink water from a puddle sooner than buy a drink here. Doesn't matter, they probably wouldn't pay attention anyhow. This is not NYC. Ask me what i want, then bring it.

Ye Olde is one of the dirtiest, stinkiest and cheapest dive bars I've ever been to, and I absolutely love it! You will leave smelling like a ashtray/deep fryer hybrid - so when you go home separate your clothes from all your other laundry - the smell travels. The food is great. Greasy, trans fatty and everything you want out of bar food. Pitchers, drafts and even bottles are cheap and shots are as well (and they're real shots too, not skimpy wuss girl shots). Parking is easy, their lot is a pretty good side, although on the weekends after 10 it's gets hard to find a spot. Wednesdays there's a great band that plays covers (Jack Johnson, Grateful Dead and even Poison if you ask nicely). Darts, Shuffleboard, those computer trivia thingies, boxing and a KILLER jukebox that is loud enough to actually hear the music. Bartenders are friendly, but prefer regulars, so take a whole 2 minutes out of your impending drunkeness to say hi and ask her your name, she'll be your friend after that. All in all if you love DIVE bars and going out in your best Star Wars t-shirt an flip flops (which I do), this place is always a good time.

I hated this place. The other customers where Jersey Shore wannabes and white trash girls. I will never go back.

I used to live around the corner from this divey dive. Hunter S Thompson would have loved this bar. The word degenerate was birthed from places like this. It's got all the dive requirements and then some. If there was a competition for the diviest of all dives, this would be a solid contender. Take your definition of a dive and then amplify it about 50% and there you have it: Ye Olde. If you're into shuffle board, super strong and cheap drinks, deep fried bar food, seedy characters and smoke dens, then this my friends is the place for you!

Food and drinks were okay. However, I haven't been in a bar with that many douchebags in a long time!! It's not the fault of the employees and maybe I just went there on a bad night, but the people there were awful!!!

The only bar in town that is really a bar. Hipsters, douchebags, dirtballs, bikers... all are welcome at this bar as far as I can tell. It has a great chill atmosphere, awesome food, LOCAL beer selections and specials, and of course an outstanding staff and near-perfect lighting. Went once, went back, and now I am there often.

I had not come in here since the new owners had taken over, which has been a while now. Didn't much care for the changes based on a single visit after the take over-Nothing terrible, it was just a different bar. I met a buddy up here recently and was really surprised at how great the staff was and how the bar really had not changed much when compared to the old days. They have decent daily specials, solid staff, and a pretty nice manager. I haven't tried the food yet, but it looked pretty good. I'll put this one back in my pocket as a favorite Royal Oak bar.

Sick of all the stereotypical chic and hip bars that are overpopulating Royal Oak? Then swing on in to Ye Olde Saloon from some casual beer drinking, shuffleboard and more. Finding its home on Main Street just south of Lincoln, this dive bar is the perfect place to unwind, play some darts, and fill your tummy with uber greasy snacks like fries and nachos. The bartenders are friendly and definitely don't skimp out when it comes to mixed drinks, which makes your $3.50 go even further! Personally, my favorite thing about this smokey joint is the shuffleboard table. Taking up a good chunk of the back of the bar, Ye Olde Saloon offers not only entertaining customers, but entertaining games. In addition, they offer patrons a electronic dart board and a totally random jukebox with everything form Barry White to Carrie Underwood. So, if you're tired of getting all dolled up simply to grab a beer and are looking for a low key, environment, Royal Oak's ye Olde Saloon is just the place for you.

We've been to Ye Olde a few times over the past couple of weeks, and daddy like. One thing I have to disagree about (and maybe this has changed recently) is as a former smoker, I have a difficult time in smokey establishments now (backwards, i know... but it makes it harder) and I would consider this one of the lesser smokelicious bars in the area. AAAND... and this one is of the utmost importance ladies... the Megatouch game at the end of the bar has the unrated version... aww yeah. Sexy.

By far the best dive bar in the area. Cheap beer and drinks, and good bar fare. They even have a $1.87 drink special on Tuesday night during the Detroit 187 show on ABC

I think i am bias but i like this place and have been going awhile. Honestly its nothing spectacular but is far enough down main street that most of the douche bags get distracted doing wheelies on their crotch rockets before they can make it here. This places used to be so smokey before the smoking ban that it was a novelty and I was sad to see it go. The drinks are always strong and i think there is shuffle board. I have fought multiple cold winter nights to make the long walk here and haven't remembered regretted it.

This probably the best bar in Royal Oak but it can get pretty packed on the weekend, they have shuffleboard too. There are lunch specials for OCC students (3 dollars for Hot dog, Fries & a soft drink or draft PBR, 4.75 for a burger, fries & a soft drink or draft PBR). They clean their beer tap lines every week so you won't get sick from drinking the beer. They also have Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter on-tap which is an excellent beer. Cool place overall.

Good cheap drinks, great staff, $1 burger sundays, and a really low self-entitled jerk ratio. Not too busy lots of times, but almost always busy at closing time. Where drinkers go when their friends call it a night. Royal Oak needs more like it.

If you are looking for a "dive" sort of pub I would highly recommend avoiding Ye Olde and finding one of the many other bars Ferndale/Royal Oak has to offer. There are a ton of other places in the area with comparable pricing and better service. A group of 10 of us decided to try out Ye Olde on a Saturday night. We knew the pub had recently re-opened with new management after being closed for 4 months. We loved the old Ye Olde and went there frequently. The new management is terrible. 2 of the people in our group got food poisoning from the burgers. We had to wait at least 20 minutes for a drink at the bar or if we were lucky enough to see a cocktail waitress we waited 30 minutes for drinks. Make sure you order multiple cocktails at a time. I'm a smoker and even for me the place was extremely smoky and has very little ventilation. It was also very dirty. Tables were left with garbage on them and we had to clean up a table ourselves. Nobody was available to wash off the cigarette ashes and butts, we even asked for a rag to do it ourselves and Brittany (bartender) never got around to giving us one after she said she would - it was very gross having to touch someone else's wet cigarette butt... Brittany was a horribly slow and obnoxious bartender. She didn't pay attention when we ordered and we had to repeat ourselves multiple times. She was not only rude to us but to other patrons sitting at the bar. Sometimes our orders were forgotten entirely.

Classic dive bar with really strong cheap drinks and great service. When I say cheap I mean $3.50 well drinks and when I say strong I mean you can barely taste the mixer. It's not as small as it looks from the outside, you'll be surprised. Ye olde is the only bar that I know of that still has a table shuffle board. They also have darts, and golden tee to keep you busy. I have eaten here and well there's not much I can say about chips and cheese. I'm not sure what else they have but I come here to drink so it doesn't matter. There is always a good mix of patrons. Ye Olde is a great cheap place to meet up with friends and have a great time.

This is probably my favorite bar in Royal Oak. They have a Tuaca chilling machine! Name a dive that has one of those. The vibe is laid back, the internet juke box is the cheapest I have ever seen, and the drinks are about as reasonable as you'll find in Royal Oak. Not nearly as smoky as others seem to think, and this is coming from a non-smoker. Shlitz specials on Sundays as well!

Sick of the same ol' Royal Joke scene? Keep going down Main Street and you'll get to Ye Olde. Darts and pool and cheap beer! Not the same old crowd you see everywhere else! I mean, who can argue with that? Good times. One warning: it's one of the smokiest places I've ever been to, and I've been to a LOT of bars. Remeber to stock up on the Febreeze.

Nothing finer than Ye Ol....assuming you are looking for a super smoky, cheap drink place to hang. Like any good dive bar, Ye Ol has a complete dart, pool and shuffleboard area. Bring your cash because this place is so old school they don't take any plastic.

Best hole in the wall in Royal Oak. Beer prices are great, crowd is awesome during sports games, and they are one of the few places around with shuffleboard.
